Nature Style
Inspired by Takashi Amano, Nature Style aquascapes aim to recreate real landscapes like forests underwater. It uses a mix of rocks and driftwood to recreate a slice of untouched nature.
Dutch Style
Originating in the Netherlands, Dutch style focuses almost entirely on plants rather than rocks or wood. Characterized by lush, dense and diverse plants, the Dutch style mimics a neat terrestrial garden. It’s often high-tech because of the heavy plant growth and maintenance required.

Brazilian Style
Brazilian style combines elements of Nature and Dutch styles but emphasizes dramatic layouts and strong color contrasts. It often uses bright plants with bold rock formations to create a vibrant, artistic look. Layouts usually feel dynamic, like mountains or flowing terrain.
Jungle Style
Jungle style is meant to look wild, overgrown, and natural, like an untouched rainforest. It uses a wide variety of plants with less strict trimming, allowing them to grow freely. This creates a dense, chaotic look that still feels natural and alive, often recreating a rainforest floor.

Iwagumi Style
Iwagumi is a minimalist Japanese style that focuses on carefully placed stones as the main feature. It follows strict rules, like using an odd number of rocks and a dominant “main stone,” with simple carpeting plants around them. The goal is balance, simplicity, and harmony.
Biotope Style
Biotope aquascapes replicate a specific real-world habitat as accurately as possible. This includes using plants, fish, rocks and wood from the same region. It’s less about artistic design and more about realism and ecological accuracy.

Triangular Layout
A dynamic composition where hardscape and plants slope from one high point in a corner down to the opposite side, creating asymmetrical tension and a sense of natural flow.
Island / Convex Layout
This layout focuses on a central mound of plants and wood with open spaces on either side, creating a powerful focus
Layout Compositions
Valley / Canyon Layout
The Valley layout uses two mounds separated by a central path to create depth. It guides the gaze through a narrowing corridor toward a rear vanishing point.
U-Shape / Concave Layout
By placing height at both ends and leaving the center open, you create a natural path for the eye to follow toward the horizon.
